Email Subject: It's Too Early

Dear Friends,

I often smile at the discussion amongst people on whether or not they are morning or evening people.  In our home my wife Farrol & I are exact opposites.  I have no problem getting up quite early in the morning to begin my day.  I don't need an alarm clock for 99% of the days at all.  I am ready and raring to go.  Farrol on the other hand works best from 11 AM until 2 AM.  She wants to make sure I read Proverbs 27:14 often, which says, "he who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be reckoned a curse to him."  I am not sure what "curse" she has in mind but I am not going to find out by the way.

I have a friend in Lincoln when we have had this same discussion about "rising before dawn and crying for help to the Lord," he would let me know as a person who has a tough time waking up early, he too cries for help but it goes something like, "Lord help me to get back to sleep," or "Help me find my way back to bed, it's to early to get up."

Friends, It does not make a difference if we are a morning or a evening people for the most part, what does make a difference is that we give the "best time of our day" to getting to know the Lord and falling deeper in love with Him.  I love the prayers of Moses from Exodus 33:13, 18, "I pray Thee, if I have found favor in Thy sight, let me know Thy ways that I may know Thee so that I may find favor in Thy sight.  In Vs. 18 Moses prays, "Show me Thy glory."  In direct proportion to each of us as Christ followers taking the time to get to know Christ, who He is and what He has done for our lives and what He wants us to be about, will we handle life's difficult circumstances and people.  I love the song we would often sing as a young Christian,  "When I look full in His wonderful face, the things of earth grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."  Our personal peace, hope, strength and impact are dependent on us doing this!

So friends, be we morning or night people, I pray each of us would take the time each day to get to know Christ in a personal and more intimate way through His Inspired Word. That we would seek to obey His truth and passionately live for His glory not our own!  He is sure worth that!!!

Have a great rest of the week!

Your friend,

Pastor Doug
