Dear Friends,
Have you ever been around someone who could not make good & wise decisions, but was all over the map in their decision making skills? How about people who one minute was one way toward people or situations and the very next minute their position and or disposition had changed? Or what about those who waver in their thought process never settling on what they want to be about, what they want to do with their life or relationships? A friend of mine says that these kind of people are like "Pinning jello to the wall." I laugh as I type that, but that is often so true as I am sure you know.
Psalm 108:1 says, "My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing praises, even with my soul." A steadfast heart does not just happen, it is not something we "will" into being for our personal life and times. It is something that comes as a result of two very essential things being placed daily in our life. The first is determining each and every day that we are given that "Christ and Christ alone" is at the center of our life. He is the Lord of our life, that all that flows from our heart, mind and being bring Him the glory and honor He rightfully deserves. Now, I know that is not easy, in fact it is quite difficult. Paul says that our flesh wages war against the Spirit, that is so true. It is easier to be fickle, one who wavers and always changing. It is difficult, might I say quite difficult, to have a consistent, established, fixed focus on Jesus Christ. Friends, never forget that is from Him, and through Him and then to Him all glory belongs.
Secondly, I believe for us to stay out of the fickle pool of life we must understand that being in the Word of God on a regular basis, allowing the Word to be in us and then flow through us is truly essential. It is the gas, the fuel if you may, to help us lead a consistent, secure life for His glory. I love what the Nav's teach on the essentials of having a grasp of the Word of God. They use the "Hand" as an illustration and say that to have a firm grasp on the word, we must, "Hear, Read, Study, Memorize and Meditate" on the Word. Those five essential ingredients, put into our daily schedule, will keep us fixed on the right course of living for His glory, settled on the truth that we are created in His image-made significant because we are His children by grace through faith in Him. He establishes us with a clear purpose to fulfill the Great Commission set before us. Wow, I don't have time to waver, change or be fickle when I allow Him to be my all and in all, and by the way you won't either.
Have a great consistent day my friends!
Yours for His glory,
Pastor Doug |
