Don Johnston – Lay Elder

Family and Work Life: Don is a Holdrege native, youngest of three boys. After high school he spent four years in the U.S. Navy, where he trained and worked as a hospital corpsman. He married Peg in 1982 and returned to school to become a registered nurse, which he did for close to 20 years. He also has been a mailman and worked in ministry and spent two years in Romania in a church planting endeavor. He is the father of three and grandfather to six–three granddaughters and three grandsons. He has been an elder at Cornerstone since 2021.

His testimony: Don came to Christ at the age of twenty years old after hearing an evangelist–Sam Dalton–at the Holdrege City Auditorium. He joined the Navy months later, and God faithfully provided many men throughout the years to disciple him.

Influential books recently read: The Blessed and Boundless God by George Swinnock and The Gospel Primer by Milton Vincent.

Favorite Bible character: Job because he was a clear example of how delighting in the presence of God’s glory sustains us in unexplainable suffering.

On describing Cornerstone: My words cannot sufficiently describe what God is doing here. The best way to know is to join Him building His church that the gates of hell cannot stand against.
