Pastor Roger Baker

Family and Work Life:  Roger Baker came on staff at Cornerstone as Associate Pastor in September of 2019, having previously served the customers and employees of Kearney Moving Service in sales and operations since 2010. In the home, his wife Janel and Roger have no lack of activity and joy as they raise six children.  Roger serves Cornerstone in areas of Discipleship such as Counseling, Men’s Ministry, Youth Group, Small Groups, and he will occasionally teach and preach.

On describing Cornerstone:  Gospel-shaped family.  Roger loves the people at Cornerstone and appreciates the way they are invested in each other’s lives. He is thankful for the faithful preaching of God’s Word and the gospel focus at Cornerstone. Christ is lifted high in the ways that we share life, challenge each other, love one another, rejoice together, suffer together, and worship together.

His testimony:  Through various circumstances, the Lord brought Roger to a place of brokenness when he was in his early 20’s and even though he would have claimed to be a Christian, he had not understood the gospel nor had he surrendered to Christ. But God, being rich in mercy and full of love, put someone in his life who preached the gospel to him faithfully. At a point in time, the Lord moved in his heart as he heard the gospel, allowing Roger to surrender to Him. Following this heart change, his life began to change. Even though this road has been marked by struggles and his heart is prone to wander, his life is no longer his and Jesus proves Himself to be faithful by never letting Roger go, by changing him, and by allowing him to be a part of His work in the lives of others.

Bible “hero”: Peter – Peter walked closely with Jesus during His earthly ministry and while Peter served the Lord in mighty ways, he was often overzealous and even denied Christ at times. Peter was broken, but Jesus restored him. Roger is thankful for this example of the Lord’s patience with a believer who was in desperate need of grace…just as we are.

Hobbies: Spending time with his family, home improvement projects, and outdoor activities (fishing, hunting)
